Mental illness and disorder is a bigger issue in Nigeria than society cares to admit. A person can look perfectly sane on the outside but all is not well, they nay wish to seek treatment but the fear of stigma keeps them suffering in silence.
Residents of Goru village of Arewa Local Goverrnment Area of Kebbi State were greeted with a horrific scene last Thursday, May 5, when a man butchered his three children.
The man identified as Mamman Dankarami, after committing the crime, attempted to commit suicide by plunging into a well.
Sunday Sun gathered that he was however rescued by neighbours before he could drown.
Neighbours gave the ages of the children as four, two and five months.
Confirming the incident, the Sole Administrator of Arewa Local Government, Alhaji Muhammadu Dankaku said the culprit was suspected to be suffering from mental problem.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Kebbi State Police Command, Nafi’u Abubakar confirmed the incident.
According to him the culprit had been admitted at psychiatric hospital in Jega local Government of Kebbi State
His wife, Malama Nafisat, it was gathered went into a coma after realizing the fate that had befallen her children.
